IFFK 2009- 14th International Film Festival of Kerala-2009 begins on Dec 11

The 14th International Film Festival of Kerala-2009 (IFFK) will be kicked off at Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) on December 11 with the screening of Turkish director Atilt Inac's film 'A step into Darkness' as the inaugural film.
164 films in 11 categories would be screened in the eight-day-long film extravaganza, which would conclude on December 18.
In the competition section, 14 films, including two Malayalam films would be screened.Malyalam film Pazhassiraja of Hariharan had been included in the world cinema category.Kerala cafe also included in IFFK.
The best film would receive a golden peacock and a cash prize of Rs ten lakh.
The director of the winning film, debutant director, the director of the best film selected by the viewers would receive a silver peacock and Rs three, Rs two and Rs one lakh respectively, he added.
Sri Lankan Director Prasanna Withrarenge, Congolese filmmaker Balufu, Indian film maker Mamtha Sanker, Al Khalisi, Egyptian Director would be the other jury members.
In retrospective section films by Mexican director Arturo Ripstein, Japan's Mikio Naruse, France's Jacques Tati, and Mrinal Sen and Lohitadas and Italian director Francesco Rosi had been included.
Besides this, seven films each from Indian cinema today and Malayalam cinema today would be screened in the festival.
